To Survive Joyfully

The Depth of American Emotions

The lightness of heart is joyous once captured in a memory.  Defining moments propel people through life in a state of wonder no matter how young or old, whatever gender, nationality, or religion. We learn and we teach.

My four sons one fine Christmas morning in their hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania…years ago.

To be misled or misguided initiates erroneous developments and that is why a proper education lifts an individual to a higher standard.  To know a little is dangerous.  To seek to know more completely yet know there is more to discover is to touch the hem of wisdom.

Attacks of any kind are a cry for help as I read in the Course of Miracles.  It makes sense.  To resort to attacks shows the lack of knowledge, and some people call it poor upbringing.  Verbal attacks hurt both the sender and receiver.  To know when to retreat from engagement in attacks is sensible.

Character is molded by choices made yet personality is knitted in the comfort of being.  A loud, boisterous person can be as kind as a soft spoken gentle giant.  Therefore, with so many unique personalities blooming characters as widely different as the number of birds created on this earth, discord is bound to happen while most prefer to glide in discovery and wonder blissfully sure all can be loved, unless hated.

We choose. Keep Reading

The Time Difference in My America

How much can we get done in an hour?

How can we pin defining moments in a minute?

Somehow the days have rolled into weeks and looking back years have been stacked to a mountain top.

The news stirs my gut because so much of all that is said matters in our lives and time is of the essence to act in the direction we wish to see our country go.  Or, is it “stay” ?

I dislike the oppositions set years ago against prayer in school, and the denouncement of the Ten Commandments.  When the Columbine tragedy occurred, I sat to hold myself from falling.  My heart hurt for the parents of the criminals because I would have rather been one losing a child than to be the one responsible for the one taking the lives of classmates.  How did they live through that horrific event and can any of all affected rest tonight like it’s all over?  Is it ever?

In the last two weeks, friends from afar have risen in another realm and I remember their influence in my life, and how their absence will fill my hours, days, and perhaps years… Keep Reading

Shipwrecked: Vacation Bible Camp

Shipwrecked?  When do we realize we are stranded?  Are we ever really all alone?

The wisdom to navigate life’s inevitable struggles contains the humility and kindness Jesus’ legacy provides in the New Testament.  The Old one is the Torah, and there the prophecies tell of the tales to unfold.  The New one continues to fill the minds and hearts of all who welcome the Holy Spirit’s presence.  It is through this form of hospitality that we arrive at being closer to being holy.  Can we really ever be?  We must strive to be holier as I found out even as I tripped over one of my Senior Tibetan Terriers…

Falling and aiming to break the fall without the ability to stop the second twist of the body that struck the unyielding tile floor, I remember the alarm of a new felt ache drawing and pulsing from hip to knee in a burst like the flame of a quickly struck match.  Not exactly surprised, I was shocked to feel a knife like stabbing in my neck when I instinctively turned to tell my family audience I was okay.

On a walk on Cougar Run with Dandelion and Tumbleweed…

Everyone extended a hand to lift me up, and I looked at the eight arms rather embarrassed by the ungraceful plump pose, and declared not to be touched.  That was wise, so  much better than to jump up without feeling the extent of the damaged body parts that now ached to be soothed.  Thanks be to God, nothing was broken.  Thanks be to God, I sat up slowly with the help of my oldest son’s pair of hands, and then stopped again to evaluate the situation.  The right side bruised without mercy let me know the only way up was to lean to the left…and since I was guided by the pain to know how to finally stand, I did so reassuring the group of stunned observers I was okay.  I looked for Tumbleweed, the sixteen year old mutt that still wished to be by my side, as close as possible to lick my foot, bless his doggy soul.

The point is I didn’t swear.  I thanked God. Keep Reading

Trump Letter in the Glory of Good

Dear Mr. President Trump,

As humans, we all fall short of the glory of God, and I know for a fact I am a greater sinner than you.  I have had two abortions, one of which I kept secret, both before I knew better.  To know better is where I want for all to be, and it is a far stretch across the abyss created by the swamp of evil in the world, specifically in Washington, D. C. where you chose to serve with an open heart your talent of negotiating for the good of the American people.  You recognized the need to redirect our nation in the world, and particularly to help improve our sinking economy.  Your God given genius to envision the best in people reminds of this quote written by one of my favorite writers:

“In God there is no hunger that needs to be filled, only plenteousness that desires to give.” _C.S. Lewis Keep Reading

To Pray or Not ToPray

Within us all a small voice makes giant strides in every decision of our lives.  That inner voice seems to be a guiding light which appears with our unknowing until the knowing of it takes a stand.  We  call it many names.  We acknowledge it as our gut feeling or a precise rational opinion that even if marred, we hold to be our own and rightful pace.  As humans, we mess up, and I think mostly unknowingly.

We are plagued with concerns weaved in desires, needs, and cultural leanings.  To be comfortable seems to be natural.  To have a wishful desire fulfilled seems delightful.  To be surrounded by the security of like mindedness seems like a no brainer for peace of mind.  Yet, despite the leveling of the three, a missing continues and we are pressed with fears.

I think about these matters and have sought to read the writings of others for the comfort of understanding to be free of the plague of concerns. Keep Reading

Heartbreak Restoration

Near a scarred place, close to the heart of the wound, appears a golden butterfly.  The very place that nudges a friend to see, the elbow with all its strength, rests with the gentle feet of the gold in a golden demonstration of love.

That is the way God speaks to us though we flutter from weed to flower and poise beautifully when noticed even taken for granted.  We know that nagging feeling yet we do it to God.  It is worse when the actions of others simply break our hearts.

What does it take to break another’s heart?  Is ours more fragile than theirs?  Can we ever recover from the severity of the despair felt when the ache is deeper than any well can hold the sacred water intended to cleanse, heal, and nourish?

The truth is emotions can be likened to the perfume bottles displayed behind glass counters.  They hold a scent encased in various shapes and colors.  The attraction to one over another is personal, and less is always more  in close quarters.

If there was a light that could shine  but love in every soul, we who love deeply, would shine it on the world for all to take a glimpse and perhaps take a chance to follow its lead.

As heartbroken as we have all been for hurts known completely by our Lord Jesus Christ, I thank God for the respite in the words so aptly spoken in the Prayer to Our Father.  I thank God for the Jesus Prayer that has sustained me when no one could.

In Psalm 147:3, the anonymous psalmist proclaims:

__He heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds.

I wish you trust.

Thank you dearest Stela for the photographs from Romania.

The Love of Barbara Bush

” Live happily with the woman you love through the fleeting days of your life.” _ Ecclesiastes 9:9

The love Barbara Pierce Bush lived to be is the blessing her family experienced.

When a man loves a woman as George Herbert Walker Bush loved his wife, she could but bloom to be all that she was for the whole family…and remains for them and as our 41st First Lady of the United Staes of America.

There is no greater gift our former 41st President could have given their six children: George Walker Bush, our 43rd President, Pauline Robinson “Robin” Bush, John Ellis “Jeb” Bush Sr., Neil Mallon Bush, Marvin Pierce Bush, and Dorothy Walker “Doro” Bush Koch.  The greatest gift any parent can give their children is to love one another.  The second one is the one our former First Lady captured in a quote:

” To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.”_ Barbara Bush Keep Reading

The Absolute Truth

” Today is unique! It has never occurred before, and it will never be repeated. At midnight it will end, quietly, suddenly, totally. Forever. But the hours between now and then are opportunities with eternal possibilities.”

Dear First Lady Melania Trump: How Flexible Do We Need To Be?

” Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. Love never fails.”
_1 Corinthians 13:7-8

Quite frankly, I don’t know that any of us is equipped to deal with all that befalls us when mean spirited people aim to devour with a “splash for attention”.  I am talking about the storm that has no mercy, that is bent on destroying, that rips trees, breaks windows, and inundates the streets causing accidents, and the perfect opportunity for some to sit at home cozy with families while others break into places to create even more havoc.  The hail dents.  The wind bends and once the snow freezes, the scene leaves us stunned, observant, and yearning for spring.

Evil is destructive and none of us can ever imagine how bad it can be.  I am not really talking about a freezing snow storm expected in Northern climates.  I am talking about people who disregard the seriousness and importance of being decent, of being discreet, of being better rather than worse.

I hope the letter I wrote our First Lady Melania is delivered and received.  I hope she has honest people around her who will look out for her well being without hidden microphones to poke fun at her accent, or to report something no one outside of her inner circle ought to hear.

May her love be greater than the hatefulness in flame in the mainstream media.

My Zealous Quest For God’s Will

“What wings are to a bird, and sails to a ship, so is a prayer to the soul.”
__ Corrie Ten Boom

I believe we can thrive to do what is absolutely possible in the name of God for humans to live in peace.

The challenge is to individually wish to seek the light within to serve all to create a better world.

In this great United States of America, many strive for high ideals and have created a comfortable way of life that may be at risk of defaulting due to the liberal wave of corruptive force manipulating the uneducated with freebies that will cost people’s freedom.  In the long run, these soldiers of the left may well cause problems some will say were unforeseeable.

The red flags are up.  The mainstream media is doing a great disservice to the populace that still believes their twisted accusations.  It is fed by those who are basically uneducated or being paid handsomely to avert the attention of the progress being made in our nation’s capital.  Mr. Trump is being bashed unfairly, and the disruptors have no moral guidance, no regard for boundaries.  Their aim is dissolute making changes to benefit all Americans as self-reliant individuals as opposed to living under a nanny state.
